VESAK MULTICULTURAL PROCESSION 2015
WELL DONE & THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!
Dear Vesak Multicultural Procession Marshalls, Float Handlers,
Performance Groups and Dancers, Drummers, and participants one
Thank you and well done to everyone involved in our 5th Vesak
Multicultural Procession. Thank you for the good work, enthusiasm
and joyful energy you contributed to help make the procession the
truly great success it was! Together bringing our Victorian Buddhist
community into the heart of Melbourne for all to enjoy.
Our safe, harmonious and timely arrival at the front steps of the
Melbourne Town hall at 1.30pm for the start of the UN Vesak
Celebration was a wonderful experience and outcome for everyone.
It was marvellous to have so many volunteer marshals come along to
help, all clearly visible in their vest, as we stretched out along the
length of the procession, to keep everyone together and safe.
Importantly we acknowledge with much gratitude both the Victorian
Police officers who kept everyone safe from traffic and enabling the
smooth flow of the procession, along with the coordination team
from Yarra Trams.
Our procession would not have been the success it was without their
skilled, professional and friendly support.
At 1pm, following the colourful spectacle of participants arriving and
gathering at Parliament Gardens, our Vesak Multicultural Procession
announced its movement along Spring Street with drum and gong.
Then followed the Buddhist Flag and blessings of the four Buddha
images on their beautiful floats; venerated with the sounds of the Sri
Lankan and Cambodia drums in the air; followed by the Venerable
Sangha mindfully proceeding down Collins Street and into Swanston
Street; leading the myriad colours of smiling participants in traditional
costumes, lanterns, children on decorated bicycles, Temple signs, and
Buddhist flags big and small waved by hundreds of the Lord Buddha’s
Well done and thank you to all.
As well as joy for us all to be a apart of, it was an occasion that
provided the many visitors to the city who were along the route of the
procession, a sight they would rarely, if ever experience, with many
cameras clicking and smiling faces helping to tell the story!
