Giới thiệu Tu viện Quảng Đức

Tu Viện Quảng Đức là một trong những ngôi tu viện Phật giáo Việt Nam tiêu biểu tại vùng Tây Bắc tiểu bang Victoria, Úc Châu. Tu viện do Thượng tọa Thích Tâm Phương khai sơn và trụ trì từ năm 1990; kể từ tháng 7 năm 2014, Thượng tọa Thích Nguyên Tạng đảm nhiệm vai trò Đệ Nhị Trụ Trì.
Ban đầu, tu viện tọa lạc tại vùng Broadmeadows. Đến năm 1996, tu viện đã mua lại khuôn viên Trường Tiểu học Fawkner cũ với diện tích khoảng 8.000 m², và từ năm 1997 đến 2003 đã kiến tạo nên một phạm vũ trang nghiêm, mỹ lệ, mang tên Bồ Tát Thích Quảng Đức. Công trình do kiến trúc sư Nguyễn Kiển Thành thiết kế theo kiểu chữ “Công”, mang đậm nét kiến trúc Á Đông cổ kính và hài hòa.
Sự kiện trọng đại của tu viện là Lễ Suy Tôn Đại Lão Hòa Thượng Thích Huyền Quang lên ngôi vị Đệ Tứ Tăng Thống, đồng thời với Lễ Khánh Thành Tu Viện Quảng Đức, được long trọng tổ chức trong ba ngày 10, 11 và 12 tháng 10 năm 2003.
Chánh điện của tu viện được bài trí vô cùng tôn nghiêm, tôn thờ tượng đồng Đức Phật Thích Ca Mâu Ni cao 2,5 mét, nặng khoảng 1,5 tấn. Hương án phía trước và hai bên tôn trí nhiều tôn tượng chư Phật, chư Bồ Tát, Hộ Pháp và Già Lam. Ngoài khuôn viên vườn chùa là các tượng đài lộ thiên như: Đức Phật Thích Ca thuyết pháp, Bồ Tát Di Lặc, Bồ Tát Quán Thế Âm và Thập Bát A La Hán, tạo nên không gian tu học thanh tịnh và trang nghiêm.
Năm 2008, tu viện xây dựng Tăng Xá và Bảo Tháp Tứ Ân. Bảo tháp cao 14 mét, gồm 4 tầng, rộng 5 mét, trên đỉnh tôn trí tượng Đức Phật A Di Đà cao 1,2 mét. Bên trong bảo tháp tôn thờ Xá Lợi Phật, chư Phật, chư Bồ Tát và an trí linh cốt của Phật tử quá vãng.
Từ 2012 đến 2013, tu viện tiếp tục xây dựng Phương Trượng Đường, Pháp Xá và sân thượng lộ thiên tôn trí tượng Phật A Di Đà. Giai đoạn 2016–2017, các công trình Trai Đường, Nhà Bếp, khu vệ sinh công cộng, cùng hệ thống bãi đậu xe (Parking) và lối đi (Driveway) được hoàn thiện khang trang.
Từ 2018 đến 2020, tu viện hoàn tất công trình cuối cùng là Vãng Sanh Đường Quảng Đức, Đoàn Quán Gia Đình Phật Tử, Cư Xá Như Ý gồm 2 tầng, 13 phòng, dành cho quý Phật tử cao niên an dưỡng những năm cuối đời trong không gian đạo vị.
Nhân dịp chuẩn bị cho Đại Lễ Hiệp Kỵ Lịch Đại Tổ Sư-Về Nguồn kỳ 12 và Lễ Mừng Chu Niên 30 năm Tu Viện Quảng Đức (1990–2020) dự kiến tổ chức từ 15 đến 18/10/2020, do ảnh hưởng của đại dịch COVID-19, mọi sinh hoạt phải tạm hoãn, nên đại lễ được dời sang tháng 10 năm 2022.
Về phương diện hoằng pháp, từ năm 1999, Thượng tọa Thích Nguyên Tạng đã thiết lập Trang Nhà Quảng Đức – www.quangduc.com
, được xem là một trong những trang web Phật giáo Việt Nam song ngữ Anh–Việt sớm nhất và lớn nhất tại hải ngoại. Trang nhà hiện có hơn 10 triệu lượt truy cập, với trên 100.000 văn bản kinh sách và tư liệu, phân loại theo 65 đề mục, bao gồm: Bồ Tát Thích Quảng Đức, danh nhân Phật giáo, chùa Việt trong và ngoài nước, truyện Phật giáo, triết học, văn học Phật giáo, v.v…
Sinh hoạt tu học tại Tu Viện Quảng Đức được duy trì đều đặn:
– 10g30 sáng mỗi Chủ nhật: sinh hoạt Gia Đình Phật Tử, lễ Cầu An – Cầu Siêu và thuyết giảng
– Nửa tháng một lần: lễ Sám Hối và tụng giới Bồ Tát tại gia
– Mỗi tháng: một ngày thọ Bát Quan Trai Giới
Vào các đại lễ truyền thống như Tết Nguyên Đán, Phật Đản, Vu Lan, Tết Trung Thu…, tu viện đón tiếp hàng ngàn Phật tử và thiện tín từ khắp nơi về lễ bái và tu học.

Quang Duc Monastery is one of the most representative Vietnamese Buddhist monasteries in the north-western region of Victoria, Australia. The monastery was founded and presided over by Venerable Thich Tam Phuong in 1990. Since July 2014, Venerable Thich Nguyen Tang has served as the Second Abbot of the monastery.
Originally, the monastery was located in Broadmeadows. In 1996, it acquired the former Fawkner Primary School site, covering an area of approximately 8,000 square metres. From 1997 to 2003, a dignified and magnificent monastic complex named Quang Duc Bodhisattva Monastery was constructed. The complex was designed by architect Nguyen Kien Thanh in the traditional “Cong” (工) architectural style, reflecting classical East Asian aesthetics with harmony and solemnity.
A major historical milestone of the monastery was the Enthronement Ceremony of the Most Venerable Thich Huyen Quang as the Fourth Supreme Patriarch, held concurrently with the Inauguration Ceremony of Quang Duc Monastery, solemnly celebrated over three days on 10, 11, and 12 October 2003.
The Main Hall is solemnly arranged, enshrining a bronze statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, standing 2.5 metres tall and weighing approximately 1.5 tonnes. The main altar and side altars house numerous statues of Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Dharma Protectors, and Guardian Deities. Within the monastery grounds are outdoor statues including Shakyamuni Buddha preaching the Dharma, Maitreya Bodhisattva, Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, and the Eighteen Arhats, creating a serene and sacred environment for spiritual practice.
In 2008, the monastery constructed the Monks’ Quarters and the Four Gratitudes Stupa (Bao Thap Tu An). The stupa stands 14 metres high, consists of four levels, and measures 5 metres in width. At its summit is enshrined a 1.2-metre statue of Amitabha Buddha. Inside the stupa are revered Buddha relics, statues of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and niches for the ashes of departed devotees.
From 2012 to 2013, the monastery continued its development with the construction of the Abbot’s Hall (Phuong Truong Duong), Dharma Residence, and an open-air terrace enshrining an Amitabha Buddha statue. During the 2016–2017 period, the Dining Hall, Kitchen, public amenities, along with the parking facilities and driveway system, were completed in a well-organised and modern manner.
From 2018 to 2020, the final phase of construction was completed with the Quang Duc Rebirth Hall (Vang Sanh Duong), the Buddhist Youth Association Hall, and the Nhu Y Residential Complex, a two-storey building with 13 rooms dedicated to providing a peaceful spiritual residence for elderly devotees in their later years.
In preparation for the 12th Ancestral Commemoration “Returning to the Source” Ceremony and the 30th Anniversary Celebration of Quang Duc Monastery (1990–2020), originally scheduled to be held from 15 to 18 October 2020, all activities were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Consequently, the celebrations were rescheduled to October 2022.

, which is recognised as one of the earliest and largest bilingual (Vietnamese–English) Vietnamese Buddhist websites overseas. The website currently records over 10 million visits and hosts more than 100,000 Buddhist texts and reference materials, categorised into 65 sections, including Quang Duc Bodhisattva, Buddhist luminaries, Vietnamese temples worldwide, Buddhist stories, philosophy, Buddhist literature, and more.
Spiritual and educational activities at Quang Duc Monastery are regularly maintained as follows:
Every Sunday at 10:30 am: Buddhist Youth Association activities, Prayers for Peace and Requiem services, and Dharma talks
Twice monthly: Repentance Ceremony and Bodhisattva Precepts chanting for lay practitioners
Monthly: One-day Eight Precepts Retreat (Bat Quan Trai)
During major traditional Buddhist festivals such as Lunar New Year (Tet), Vesak, Ullambana (Vu Lan), and Mid-Autumn Festival, the monastery welcomes thousands of Buddhists and visitors from various regions for worship and spiritual practice.
