The Mind’s Sanctuary
A world filled with information bombardment and learning,
The busy streets, the crowded stations, the urban struggle.
Did we work to live or work to stay relevant?
When did we lose our lives in the endless hustle?
A small sanctuary opens once every year,
Ten days of peace from the urban strife.
The Winter Retreat teaches the essence of the mind,
Reminding the humble roots of life.
Morning meditation to clarify the mind,
Another at night to settle down and sleep,
Three meals a day for nourishment and energy,
The mind and body replenished for our brain to think deep.
Chants help to remember our lessons,
Be humble, be kind and learn to be grateful.
The evening lessons preach on wisdom and acceptance,
Compassion and respect to make future encounters fateful.
The urban world returns; the ten days have ended.
Yet the mind is clean and changed for the better.
Small lessons we carry for our generations and beyond,
To improve our life story until the final letter.
