When I become a bodhisattva, then
My title will be Guan Yin: I listen
To whining cries and free beings from pain.
I will always at sea save drowned humans.
Whenever I hear cries in samsara
I will definitely arrive and save.
I’ll transform devils, as I’m like Tara.
The holy water in my vase does lave
And purify sentient beings’ mind.
Thus they will have a joyful happy life.
With compassion I won’t leave them behind—
All the beings—although their sins are rife.
I will free all beings from the three worlds:
hell beings, hungry ghosts and animals.
Tortured criminals will be freed like fur,
With their faith deep and unquestionable.
I will make boats to save and bring people
To the other shore of enlightenment.
I’ll take them, despite all the upheavals
Of life, to the joyful pure land western.
I’ll have an endless life in the pure land.
So those who chant my name will for sure soon
Be taken to the dreamed western pure land
With glory though (s)he might have been a goon.
I will make these twelve vows forever work,
With my tremendous spiritual efforts,
To save all sentient beings for good,
To save all sentient beings for good.
Even if my body, because of this,
May hurt or shatter into small pieces,
I will always be happy not to miss
