"Without moral values, a person loses self-control and does what is wrongas soon as he finds the opportunity," the exiled Tibetan leader said.

Hailing India for her tolerance of diverse cultures, religions, and languages, the Dalai Lama said he continues to be inspired by the ancient Indianprinciples of non-violence and religious harmony.

Speaking on the universality of moral ethics, His Holiness the Dalai Lamaunderlined the importance of the secular nature of moral ethics.

“Some people mistakenly believe that moral ethics are based on religiousvalues. If that was so, then it can never be universal because the reality isthere are so many religious traditions,” His Holiness said.

“Secular ethics relate to all of us as the same human beings using our commonexperience, common sense, and latest scientific findings to make positivechanges in oneself and others,” the Dalai Lama added.

Speaking on his recent devolution of political authority to the electedpolitical leadership, the Tibetan spiritual leader who is scheduled to leavefor a three-nation Europe tour said that it was a decision he “happily, voluntarily and proudly” took.

Union Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid, West Bengal Governor GopalKrishna Gandhi, NCM Chairman Wajahat Habibullah, BJP leader Jaswant Singh andMinister of State for Minority Affairs Vincent H Pala were among thedignitaries present on the occasion.

Generation of the Bodhi Mind is a critical method of Buddhist cultivation that, if not superior is as equally important as any other methods mentioned in Tipiṭaka. In the Great Skillful Means Sutra, the Buddha instructs Anan: “Generation of the Bodhi Mind is a superior method that helps the cultivator shorten their path to awakening.” In the Adornment Sutra, the Buddha kindly reminds that “Even the cultivators who simply forget to generate the Bodhi Mind are actually doing all the evil deeds for whatever they are doing”, let alone one who has never made any vow or practised cultivating the mind.

We are not usually outspoken, but this display desecrates the image of Buddha by placing images of these mythical images on him and in doing so, showing no apparent regard or respect for Him.
