“NOW”

By Ven. Shih Jingang

No past, no present, no future.  All created things arise and pass away.  All names and labels dissolve.  You can observe this in meditation practice and, in experiencing impermanence in life and so-called death.

At the conclusion of the Diamond Sutra, it is said that, this is how we should view our conditioned existence: as a star at dawn, a bubble in a stream, a drop of dew, a flash of lightning in a summer cloud, a flickering lamp, a phantom and a dream.

I had the privilege of knowing a woman who had so completely immersed herself in the Buddha’s teachings, that, by the time of her passing from this life she embodied the Dharma. What follows is a prayer of dedication to her, the Three Jewels and to all sentient beings:

Now is the time of awakening to this precious moment.

“I take refuge in the Awakened One.”

Now is the time of realising, that,

I am the Light itself, the Dharma is the light.

“I take refuge in the Dharma of the Awakened One.”

Now is the time of Compassion for all suffering beings.

“I take refuge in the Sangha of the Awakened One.”

May all beings experience the unconditional embrace of

Boundless Compassion.

May the radiant light which emanates from its heart

lead all to blissful freedom.

May all sentient beings be liberated from suffering.

Namo Amitabha!

This is a letter from the young Vietnamese man I met when another member of Buddhist Contemplative Care Tasmania I were going out to Pontville in 2013. We have written to each other for over two years now. I have encouraged him in his practice and to remain calm and strong. He has and look how well he is doing. He has practised strong determination, what the Buddha called Adhiṭṭhāna which is one of the Paramis. Already he is practising to be a Buddha.

Tôi sửng sốt khi nhận được giấy mời từ văn phòng Liên hiệp quốc tại Geneva, Thụy Sỹ - Invitation for releasing “T. T. Weapon book at UN Geneve”.

Amitabha Buddha’s name chanting is an easy method of cultivation in which beliefs are difficult to have, especially in this age of information technology when people care more about material comfort than the spiritual life. However, as in the Buddha’s teachings: Buddhahood is a nature of mind and it’s the mind that possesses the Buddhahood, ringing about enlightenment. Therefore, as Buddhists, we have to believe in Buddha’s teachings. The Flower Adornment Sutra stated: “Beliefs are the mother of all the good merits.”. No other merits are greater than making a vow to be reborn in the Pure Land and to become a Buddha. On the occasion of this year’s retreat, we would like to briefly tell you about an old lady having a belief in Amitabha Buddha’s name chanting

Buddhist priest Alan Piercey is a hospital chaplain in Burnie, a fireman with his local brigade in Penguin and a one-time purveyor of chocolate. Media player: "Space" to play, "M" to mute, "left" and "right" to seek. He is known to the people on the North West coast by a number of different names, the most often used borrowed from a popular animated movie. "My ordained name is Venerable Shih Jingang (pronounced Cher Gin Gun)," he said. "Most people around the North West Regional Hospital in Burnie just know me as Sifu. "And if you ask any five-year-old, they'll know exactly who Sifu is: a character from Kung Fu Panda. I believe it's a cartoon."

Thank you. Well, good morning. Giving all praise and honor to God. It is wonderful to be back with you here. I want to thank our co-chairs, Bob and Roger. These two don’t always agree in the Senate, but in coming together and uniting us all in prayer, they embody the spirit of our gathering today.
