Order of Ceremony
The wedding ceremony is the center of your wedding and the most important part of your wedding day because:
It is when your promises are made It is when the legal contract is completedIt is when you stand before your family and friends to declare your love and your commitment to each other.
A wedding ceremony can be very formal or very relaxed, but its most important attribute is that it should reflect the personality of thecouple being married. A well designed wedding ceremony has a clear structure. It flows smoothly, maintains everyone is interest and remainsvery personal and intimate throughout. The music and poetry should complement the promises and the setting, and the leadership providedby the celebrant should be warm and inclusive.
There is no standard wedding ceremony order, but they generally contain most of these elements:
The words that make a wedding legal in AustraliaAccording to section 46 of the Marriage Act 1961, to make the ceremony legal and binding. The words below must say by me as anauthorised the celebrant during your ceremony are:
"I am duly authorized by law to solemnize marriages according to the law. "Before you are joined in marriage in my presence and in thepresence of these witnesses, I am to remind you of the solemn and binding nature of the relationship into which you are now about to enter. "Marriage, according to the law in Australia, is the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life".
The legal requirement for your vows, that must be included within the ceremony, are the words according to Section 45 of the Marriage Act1961: To be said by both of the parties to the marriage in my presence and in the presence of witnesses.
'I call upon the persons here present to witness that I, A.B. (or C.D.), take you, C.D., (or A.B) to be my lawful wedded husband (or wife)' or words to that effect.
