As you know there was a 7.8 degree earthquake in Kathmandu, Nepal, at 11:56 a.m. on April 25th, 2015. The number killed has risen to 7,566, some 14,500 persons were injured, and more than 90% of property in Nepal has been destroyed or damaged by the earthquake. At the present time tens of thousands of homeless people are suffering, living on the streets. Sick at heart when faced with the huge dimension of this tragedy and the damage, and in the Buddhist spirit of relieving suffering, our Most Venerable Head of the Unified Vietnamese Buddhist Congregation in Australia and New Zealand and our Commissioner for Social Welfare and Charities issued a Circular calling all institutional members of the Congregation throughout Australia to contribute to the relief of the victims. After a month of campaiging, as of May 25th, 2015, the amount raised has been AU$213,000.
