Sylvia Boorstein
Sylvia Boorstein is an American[1] author, psychotherapist,[2] and Buddhist teacher.[3]Boorstein studied with Dipa Ma[4] and is a co-founding teacher at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Woodacre, California[5] and a senior teacher at the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts.
All four of Boorstein's grandparents were Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe.[2] Boorstein grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and attended Barnard College.[2] After moving to California in 1961, Boorstein earned a master's degree in social work from the University of California Berkeley in 1967.[2]
She has written numerous books such as It's Easier Than You Think: The Buddhist Way to Happiness,[6] That's Funny, You Don't Look Buddhist,[7] Don't Just Do Something, Sit There[8] and How to Be Sick: A Buddhist-Inspired Guide for the Chronically Ill and Their Caregivers with Toni Bernhard.[9]
