Harold Talbott was a students and a practitioner of Tibetan Buddhism for more than fifty years. He began his long journey in India as a private student of the Dalai Lama in the mid-1960's. In 1968, he served as Thomas Merton's guide to Tibetan lamas in the Himalayas during the last months of Merton's life. Under Merton's influence, the author committed himself to study with the Nyingma or "Old School" Tibetan Buddhist teachers, who guided him deeper into the practice of Dzogchen (The Great Perfection). The author worked closely with Tulku Thondrup and edited twelve of his books and numerous translations. Harold Talbott passed away in 2019, soon after his memoir was published. Tendril is his last and only book.
Harold Talbott is the cofounder of the Buddhayana Foundation, an organization in Marion, Massachusetts, dedicated to preserving and promoting the wisdom and traditions of Tibetan Buddhism.
