In 1993 May 30th Buddhist Vihara Victoria was first established in Rich Street Noble Park Victoria as in a small 2 bedroom house. Instigated by certain comments from a member of the Australian Inter Faith group, Venerable Soma Thero recognized a need to establish a temple on premises that would enhance the image of Buddhism. As a result, in 1995 a five acre property in Berwick was purchased with the view of establishing a temple. In 2002, with the opening of the monk's residence the temple was moved from Noble Park to Berwick as The Sakyamuni Sambuddha Vihara.
In 2002, when the temple was first established, there was one building that was the monks' residence which was used for all activities such as daily worship, special festivals & the Sunday School. The Chief Sanganayake of the Amarapura Shri Dharma Rakshitha Chapter in Australia the most Venerable Royal Pandith Digamadulle Wimalananda Thero is the chief incumbent of the Shakyamuni Sambuddha Vihara. It was the chief incumbent most Venerable Wimalananda Thero's humble determination to one day bring Venerable Soma Thero's vision to reality.
